This drill focuses on choosing your correct target.

Sometimes, the target is not the pin. There may be trouble preventing you to go at the pin and keep the ball on the green.

• You may be downwind and need more room to stop the ball.
• You may have to run the ball onto the green.
• You may not have a comfortable yardage with your club.

All of these circumstances force you to choose a different target.

The new target needs to be as small as the pin. By choosing an exact target, you are zeroing in on the center of your goal. All your focus can be concentrated like a laser.

This week, before you hit your approach shot, find an exact target. It may be a tree branch in the distance, an edge of a back bunker, or a dark spot on the green. Whatever it is – decide it is your only target.

Bring all your concentration on that single spot. Now you can use your alignment techniques to hit the ball where you’re looking.
