During this drill we want to exercise our mental muscles and improve our pre-shot routine.

We have the opportunity to speak with dozens of “performance psychologists”. Their job is to help get their students in the best mental position to perform.

The culture we live in is rapid-fire, busy, and difficult to slow down. Golf is not a rapid-fire game. It is a game of controlled emotion and movement.

We run to the car, get on the phone, put on our shoes while we drive, get to the course and run to the tee as we hang up the phone! (hopefully, NOT). It is a bad picture.

Our psychologist friends’ job is to slow down our heartbeat so we can stroll to the tee – or range- and perform at the correct pace.

Their recommendation is to begin in the car with slower music and try to slow down the excited heartbeat. Many recommend using the Golf Metronome to assist. By setting the tempo to a slow rhythm and concentrating on the beat, the heart automatically responds.

Using the metronome on the warm-up tee will help you systematically and slowly begin hitting shots without rushing.

Give this a try … it is good for sooooo many reasons!
