There are just 2 keys to 2 putting every green – good lag putting and making short putts. This drill is about improving our “feel” for lag putting.

It is called “The Cluster Drill”. Charles Warren – PGA Tour player told me about it.

Begin with 3-5 balls and your metronome…no target hole, though.

With good rhythm, hit your first ball hard enough to go 20+ feet. Don’t look up to see where it went! Hit the rest of the balls in the same rhythm and try to hit them the same distance (to form a “cluster”).

This is a great drill to give feedback on the consistency of your stroke tempo, and your “feel”. Eventually, you will be great at knowing when you hit a putt too hard or too soft.

When you feel adventurous, make the putt longer – 30, 40, 50 feet.
